This Week on Rated: A Real Magazine, Video That Works, and a Vault That Doesn't Budge

We've been heads-down building, and this batch of updates is one of the biggest yet — not just new things to try, but old friction finally gone. Here's everything that changed.

Magazine Just Grew Up

The Magazine tab got a full editorial overhaul. The lead story now runs full-bleed at the top — the kind of treatment a real front page gives its biggest headline. Below it, staggered cards carry kickers, bylines, and reading time, so you know what you're about to read before you tap in. New posts arrive in a clean "new posts" pill instead of yanking you back to the top, and scroll keeps loading as you go.

Open an actual story and the reading page itself has been rebuilt too — a progress bar tracks how far you are, drop caps mark the start of a piece the way a real magazine would, and pull quotes break up longer reads. This is the difference between a feed of headlines and something that actually feels like reading a magazine.

Video, Actually Working

Video no longer feels bolted on. It plays directly in the Magazine feed now — tap a Take and it plays inline with real controls, tap an Article and the lead video runs as a proper 16:9 player right at the top. Scroll past a playing video and it pauses itself automatically. If you've got Data Saver on, video won't preload until you actually ask for it. No more video stories that quietly looked like dead links.

More Ways to Talk Back

Takes and Articles now surface a "Top reply" right on the card, with a link straight into the full conversation — so the best take on a story isn't buried, it's right there.

Reactions got bigger too. Beyond the like, you can now react to a Take with an actual emoji — ❤️ 😂 🔥 👍 😮 🙏 — and see live reaction counts as pills under the post. Sometimes "like" isn't the reaction you're looking for.

And repost counts are now visible everywhere reposts happen — the Magazine feed, FYP, the full-screen viewer, Articles, Creations — all of it. If nobody's reposted yet, we just don't show a zero; no need to advertise an empty number.

Tap Anywhere

This one's small but it matters: you can now tap anywhere on a Take or Article card to open the full story — not just a specific headline or thumbnail. Links, buttons, and video controls still work exactly like they did; we made sure the rest of the card became tappable without breaking anything that already worked.

The Fixes You Might Not Notice — But Should Know About

Some of the most important work this round doesn't show up as a shiny new feature. It shows up as things quietly working the way they should have all along:

Typing just works now. The reply box no longer loses focus mid-sentence — type your thought, and it stays exactly where you left it. Your encryption keys are safer. A rare glitch could previously cause your device's encryption keys to rotate or clear unexpectedly. That's fixed — your end-to-end encrypted chats stay exactly as sealed as they're supposed to be. Corrections can't be skipped anymore. If a journalist edits a published Article, the system now blocks the save until they've actually written what changed. This isn't a small technical rule — it's the correction trail working exactly as designed, every time, with no shortcuts. Business account approvals are more reliable. Re-approving a paused Business account now properly reactivates it instead of silently failing.

None of these are flashy. All of them are the kind of thing that makes a platform trustworthy instead of just good-looking.
